July
EKF National Championships
On the 13th & 14th July, the English Karate Federation returned to the Ponds Forge in Sheffield to hold its National Championships. In attendance from Wado UK was Paul Braid and his Shinken Dojo, along with Chris Fenton and his Kazoku Dojo. Representing the Shinen Dojo was Jordan Taylor and Amy Newton, with Faith Hunt and Bryan Middleton representing the Kazoku Dojo.
There were medal successes on the day, with JOrdan Taylor placing 2nd in the Senior Men's Kata category. Bryan Middleton would also stand on the podium, as he secured a 3rd place in the Senior Men's Under 60kg Kumite category. Amy and Faith were unlucky on this occasion, both giving good performances but falling just short of the medals.
Wado UK Junior Championships
On July the 20th, Wado UK held its 10th Anniversary Junior Championships. They were held at the newly built Hull University Gymnasium, and you can read all about the event by clicking on this link.
Wado UK Open Championships
It is now only around 2 months to our biggest event of the year, our Wado UKOpen Championships. We are pleased to see it return to Hull this year, as this will make the logistics of the event so much easier. That said we have much to do, and we would urge anyone who would like to assist us to get in touch as soon as possible. Assistance could take any form, at any level, and at any point of the event. By way of a reminder, for us the event begins on the Friday evening as we collect the vans and equipment, and finishes on the MOnday morning as we return the vans to the hire depot. Almost everything else happens in the middle. If you could spare a day, or even an hour, please let us know.
We have posted the entry form below for those interested in entering the actual competition. Please note it is for information only, because your club instructors will take care of logging competitors on your behalf.

Halifax Open
Chris Fenton recently took his Kazoku club to the 2nd Halifax Open. By the end of the day, they had won two bronze medals, with Bryan Middleton taking bronze in the under 67kg kumite category, loosing 4-0 to an England squad athlete. He then joined forces with club-mates Tom Hunt and Lee Aston to contest the men's team event. This again proved fruitful, as the team also won bronze, securing Bryan's second medal of the day in the process.
We hope to have a photo with the medallists in the near future.

Wado UK Presentation Evening
The 2018 presentation evening took place on the 7th December. Again at the Asylum Hull University, the only real difference being a change in personnel as MC for the evening. Barry Meanwell stepping up to the plate due to Tony Dent not being in the UK on that date.
