Woodford Karate Club Members selected for European Wado-Kai Championships

Three members of the Wado-UK have been chosen to represent Wado-Kai England, at the forthcoming 36th European Wado-kai Cup 2008. The venue will be the Polyvalent Sports Hall, Bucharest on the 1st November. Barry Meanwell Jamie Fenton and Chris Fenton all attended their monthly squad training session last weekend to cement their selections.

It was a 3 hour session from 11:00am to 2.00pm – it started off with Barry Meanwell taking all the Kumite and Kata students through the initial warm-up, then the two group split into their individual disciplines.
Jamie, Chris, Barry are all selected to the Kumite squad and so were working on fighting techniques.

After going through drills, and combination techniques they continued by going over some recently learned techniques from last months squad training session with Ticky Donovan, making sure that the invaluable training hadn’t been forgotten. It was a hard session and the temperature was hot, just as it should be.
Following on from the training the squad coach wanted to see some of the team fight again and so Barry was put up against one of the other senior squad members, winning convincingly. Jamie and Chris were then put up against each other, a great battle as always with the pair clearly impressing the selectors.

The winners of their individual categories during Saturday’s events will get the opportunity to compete in a Euro - Asia cup on Sunday 2nd November where each winner will be fighting against a member of the Japanese team.

A full report on the competition will be on the news-pages and in the newsletter during November.
